Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday urged ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank to enhance loan disbursal under welfare schemes aimed at supporting the poor in Odisha.
During a meeting with representatives of these private banks at Lok Seva Bhawan here, the CM stressed the critical role played by banks in implementation of welfare initiatives with the Narendra Modi government’s focusing on uplifting the poor through credit-linked schemes. The loans are vital for economic inclusion and job creation, he said.
Majhi advised the banks to significantly ramp up lending to the poor and warned them against continued underperformance.
The performance of these banks in Odisha under schemes like PMEGP, PM Swanidhi, Stand-Up India, agri loans, housing & education loans has been poor because of which they were removed from the state government’s empanelled list of banks on June 21, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.
Sources added that the banks’ representatives responded positively, committing to improve their performance and expedite loan disbursal under the schemes.
