Odisha DGP Orders Action Against ‘Hooligans’ In Road Rage Case Involving Army Officer

Bhubaneswar: Odisha DGP YB Khurania on Thursday ordered for registration of a case against ‘a group of hooligans’, who allegedly assaulted Major Gurvansh Singh Gosal and his fiancée on September 14 night.

“The wrongdoers will be identified and strict action will be taken against them,” the DGP said.

This came a day after the top cop suspended five police officers of Bharatpur police station, including the IIC, for gross misconduct following allegations of custodial misconduct and molestation of the Army officer’s fiancée. The couple had gone to police station, seeking swift action against the hooligans but were allegedly brutally attacked by the cops.

Police had earlier claimed that Singh and his fiancé arrived at Bharatpur police station at around 3 am to lodge a complaint. When the woman sub-inspector on duty asked them to file a written complaint, they got irked and attacked the police personnel. While Army officer was let off after allegedly being detained in the lockup for over 10 hours, his fiancée was arrested for creating fracas and attacking a woman cop.

While she has been granted bail, the Orissa High Court has fixed September 26 for considering the petition seeking quashing of the FIR registered against her.

On Wednesday, Khurania had also sought a report on police stations in the state where there are no cameras or those where the devices are lying defunct. Police are also probing as to why CCTV cameras could not be installed at Bharatpur police station, which had been functioning from an outpost for over three years and was inaugurated in March this year.
