Odisha Drops Four Places In NITI Aayog’s SDG Ranking

Bhubaneswar: Though Odisha has improved its composite score towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), it has dropped four places in the latest nationwide rankings released on Thursday.

As per the NITI Aayog’s SDG India Index and Dashboard 2020–21, Odisha was ranked 19th with a composite score of 61. This is a drop from the 15th position from that in 2019. However, the state’s score was 58 in that year.

Since its inaugural launch in 2018, the index has been comprehensively documenting and ranking the progress made by States and Union Territories towards achieving the SDG.

The latest index was launched by NITI Aayog Vice Chairperson Dr Rajiv Kumar in New Delhi.

As per the report, here’s how Odisha has fared in various sectors:

Percentage of population living below the national poverty line

Head count ratio as per the Multidimensional Poverty Index

Percentage of households with any usual member covered by a health scheme or health insurance

Persons provided employment as a percentage of persons who demanded employment under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)

Percentage of the population (out of total eligible population) receiving social protection benefits under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)
