Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha police has launched an investigation into alleged cheating of several investors of Rs 4 crore by a company, which promised them lucrative returns on forex trading and crypto investments, reports said on Wednesday.
The probe was initiated following allegation that the firm, Omm Agency & GRSS Greentech Pvt Ltd with its office at Uttereswar in Soro are of Balasore district, offered 8 per cent monthly interest on investments and collected money from depositors during 2019-21, they said.
The matter came to light when a businessman Jitendra Kumar Dash of Balasore town recently lodged a complaint with the EOW against the company and claimed that he lost Rs 45 lakh to the fraud firm.
Dash said he invested Rs 45 lakh in the company during 2019-20 and the company initially paid good returns. While he got around Rs 11 lakh on his investment, the firm stopped giving returns after February 2021, he alleged.
When he inquired about the delay in getting his interest, the company cited huge loss in the business due to COVID pandemic and promised to return his entire money soon, but it reneged on its commitment. Later, the company officials threatened Dash and refused to refund his money, he alleged.
Dash has informed that many others had also invested huge money amounting to around Rs 4 crore between 2019 and 2021 with the firm, an EOW official was quoted by TOI as saying. Efforts are on to trace the company officials who are apparently on the run.
