Odisha Fights COVID-19: Plasma Therapy Begins At Cuttack’s Ashwini Hospital

Bhubaneswar: The Plasma therapy treatment for COVID-19 patients has begun at Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack city on Thursday.

A 48-year-old critically-ill COVID-19 patient at Cuttack Ashwini hospital has been administered to B Positive plasma. Blood plasma has been collected from four donors at Cuttack SCB, informed Jayant Panda, State government’s technical adviser on coronavirus.

Notably, four persons, including a pediatrician, who have already recovered from COVID-19, volunteered to donate plasma. More than 300 others have also come forward to do the same for the next phases.

It was decided to begin services in the SUM Hospital and KIIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar and Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack while a dedicated plasma bank has been set up at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the plasma therapy for COVID-19 patients will be made available free of cost to the people of the state and also inaugurated the Plasma Bank at SCB Medical College, Cuttack through video conference.

A plasma therapy is a procedure that involves the use of antibodies from the blood of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 to treat other infected people.
