Bhubaneswar: Alarmed at the killing of several people by a wild tusker in Sambalpur district, Odisha’s Forest department has reportedly decided to send a team to tranquilise the elephant as part of efforts to curb its menace.
As per reports, it has been decided to send a special team of officials to Sambalpur to take stock of the situation following the death of several persons after being attacked by the wild tusker.
The incidents have also triggered panic among the people in the area. The Forest department team will study the situation in the affected area and take steps for tranquilising the elephant, if necessary, to contain its menace, sources said.
It may be noted here that a man, identified as Judhisthir Behera, was returning home after watching a cricket match when the tusker trampled him to death near Purunapani area in Birsinghgarh area of the district on Sunday.
The tusker had killed another person and damaged many houses in the area recently., Worried over the jumbo menace, locals had demanded immediate steps by the authorities to remove the tusker from the area for their safety and security.
