Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has taken swift action to resolve grievances over drinking water reported through social media in three districts – Nabarangpur, Jajpur and Kandhamala.
According to officials, prompt steps were taken to ensure restoration of essential water facilities at the grassroots level after the issues were raised on social media platforms.
Field-level action was initiated by the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department following complaints received over the past two days, addressing issues related to a tube well, a non-functional water source and a damaged solar-powered water storage tank.
In Nabarangpur district, the department acted on a complaint concerning a drinking water facility in Chakalapadar Gram Panchayat under Jharigam block. The tube well mentioned in the complaint was disinfected, while water samples were collected and sent to a laboratory for testing.
This apart, a new tube well equipped with a hand pump was installed to meet the drinking water requirements of local residents.
In Jajpur, officials arranged for the repair of a non-functional tube well in the Binjharpur block area following a complaint posted on social media. The tube well has since resumed normal functioning, the department said.
Similarly, in Kandhamala district, the department replaced a damaged solar-powered water storage tank in Rindabali Patangapadar village under Judabali Gram Panchayat in Kotagarh block.
The replacement was undertaken to restore the normal functioning of the village’s drinking water supply system and ensure access to water for local residents.
These interventions were part of continued efforts to address public grievances, improve the delivery of essential services and ensure prompt action on issues affecting people at the grassroots level, officials said.
The government is committed to strengthening a responsive, accountable and people-centric governance system by prioritising public complaints and taking timely corrective measures, they added.
