Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has sanctioned pension benefits for 23 additional individuals detained during the Emergency under MISA (The Maintenance of Internal Security Act, 1971) or DIR (The Defence of India Rules).
Those include 19 MISA and 4 DIR detainees. Each will receive a monthly pension of Rs 20,000 and full medical coverage from the state government.
With this, the number of total beneficiaries has gone up to 44.
The Mohan Majhi government had approved the scheme in January this year. The pension scheme, effective from January 1, benefits all surviving detainees put behind the bars in Odisha from June 26, 1975, to March 21, 1977.
