Odisha Govt Asks Farmers Body To Withdraw Stir, Warns Of Action

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has asked the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) to withdraw its proposed Odisha Bandh call on February 21 failing which, it will be forced to take appropriate action.

The Home Department, in a release on February 18, has appealed to the Sangathan to desist from its agitational activities in the state, especially in the interest of about six lakh students, their parents and teachers since the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination is scheduled to kick off across the state from February 22.

Maintaining that the examination is an important academic event for the career of the students, the notification said if the Sangathan persists with its planned bandh programme, the state government will be compelled to take all necessary measures to ensure smooth conduct of the examination.

“Action will be taken as per the provisions of law. It is hoped that the organisers will realize that their action could cause inconvenience to the public especially the students’ community and withdraw their Bandh call in the larger public interest,” it pointed out.
