Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has borrowed an amount of Rs 21,177.99 crore from different sources during the last nine months between June 2024 and February 2025, the state Assembly was informed on Monday.
Answering a question by BJD MLA Goutam Buddha Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the House that the borrowings include Rs 7,149.56 crore from the Central government, Rs 9,000 crore from the open market, Rs 2,261.16 crore from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Rs 2,750 crore from the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC), and Rs 2,370 crore from the State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA).
This apart, the net Provident Fund deduction amounted to Rs 2,352.73 crore, the Chief Minister said.
The CM, who holds finance portfolio, also stated that the funds borrowed are being fully utilised for capital investments and key development projects, including irrigation, energy, roads, disaster management, and urban infrastructure.
Majhi further informed the House that the state government repaid debts of Rs 14,970.97 crore during the same period.
