Odisha Govt Directs Collectors To Follow Construction& Demolition Waste Management Plan

Bhubaeswar: The state government has directed the district collectors to strictly follow its instructions on disposal of construction and demolition (C&D) waste.

In a letter to the collectors, principal secretary, Housing and Urban Development department, G Mathivathanan has pointed out that the government had assigned the responsibility of management of the C&D waste in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to Mission Shakti members and transgender community.

The collectors were asked to select suitable sites for setting up the facility for storage, processing and recycling of the C&D. The units which generate more than 20 tonne or more in a day or 300 tonne in a month must submit waste management plan to the ULB before taking up any construction or demolition activity.

The local body has to sanction the waste management plan within a month after making a thorough study of it. The units have to pay for the processing and disposal of their waste apart from the expenditure for storage, collection, and transportation.
