Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has revised the operational start date for 57 newly-notified Sub-Registration Offices across the state, now set to begin functioning from February 5 instead of the previously announced February 2.
“In partial modification to earlier notifications, the newly-notified Sub-Registration Offices shall function with effect from February 5 instead of February 2,” the Revenue and Disaster Management Department’s official notification read.
This development builds on the state’s broader reform to decentralise land registration processes, which began in November 2025. These offices will streamline the registration of property-related documents such as sale deeds, wills, and agreements while serving as vital custodians of public records, by allowing property transactions and registrations to take place directly at tehsil-level offices, thereby reducing the need for citizens to travel to district headquarters or traditional sub-registrar offices.
The rollout started with the inauguration of 44 new sub-registrar offices in the first phase, covering tehsils across 13 districts. These offices were launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi via video conferencing on November 1, 2025, as part of efforts to make land buying, selling, and registration more accessible and efficient.
The government had targeted expanding the service to all 273 tehsils in Odisha by December 2025.
A key feature of the system is the option for citizens to book registration slots online through the official portal, streamlining the entire process and minimising delays.
Officials have described the move as a significant step toward simplifying property registration, bringing services closer to rural and remote areas, and enhancing transparency in land transactions.
The 57 additional offices represent a further expansion of this tehsil-co-terminus model, aligning sub-registration functions more closely with local tehsil administration. The slight postponement is seen as a minor administrative adjustment to facilitate better preparedness at these new facilities.
The 57 new Sub-Registration Offices are as follows:
