Bhubaneswar: Considering the inordinate delay in reopening of schools in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Odisha government on Wednesday announced a 30 per cent reduction in the school syllabi for the current academic session.

Briefing the media, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said that the decision to reduce Class I to XII syllabi was taken on the recommendation of the syllabus committee of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE).

Stating that the students can check the revised syllabi from the official websites of the BSE (www.bseodisha.nic.in ), SCERT (www.scertodisha.nic.in

) and CHSE (www.chseodisha.nic.in ), he said that the Block Education Officers (BEOs) and District Education Officers (DEOs) will be asked to inform the schools and higher secondary schools about this decision at the earliest.

To enable the students to participate in national-level tests, the syllabus committees have picked the chapters accordingly.

On further reduction in syllabi due to continuing delay in reopening of schools, the minister said the state government would take a decision to this effect in the first week of September after the Centre announces the new unlock-4 guidelines on August 31.
