Odisha Hockey WC: South Korean Photo Journalist Falls Into Open Drain In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Even as huge money is being spent to beautify Odisha capital for Hockey World Cup, absence of basic civic facilities came to fore after a photo journalist from a foreign country was injured after falling into an open drain in the city.
According to reports, the photo journalist, stated to have come from South Korea to cover the Hockey World Cup, fell into the open drain while having tea at a roadside kiosk in Dumduma area of the capital city.
He was immediately rescued by locals and rushed to a hospital for treatment. His condition was stated to be stable.
The incident seems to have brought embarrassment to the state government as its agencies including Bhubaneswar Muncipal Corporation (BMC) have been working on a war footing to give a new look to the capital city for the mega international sporting event.
While a large number of street vendors have been evicted, roads were repaired and massive beautification and lighting works were also undertaken.
It may be noted here that a school student had died last year after falling into an open drain in Shatabdi Nagar in the capital city.
