Jharsuguda: In stepped up crackdown on fertiliser black marketing by the authorities, at least 26 bags of urea were seized during raids in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.

Sources said the raid was conducted by the Jharsuguda district agriculture officer, block agriculture officer, and fertiliser inspector and 26 bags of urea were seized while were being sold illegally at Kirmira.

Officials said the secretary of the Kirmira Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) was found involved in this black marketing. The team reached the spot and took action after local farmers reported the issue. An FIR has been registered against the PACS secretary, and further investigation is underway.

It may be noted that enforcement has been intensified across the state and the government is taking strict action against black marketing. The agriculture department is committed to providing fertilisers to farmers at the right price and ensuring their timely availability, officials said.

Strict action will be taken against black marketers, and the government will continue to monitor the situation to prevent such incidents in the future, they added.
