Bhubaneswar Chief Minister Mohan Majhi launched the Odisha Yatri Safety App, on the occasion of Local Self-Government Day, marking a significant step towards safer, smarter and more citizen-centric urban mobility in the state.
The app was unveiled in the presence of Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Odisha Yatri brand ambassador, actor Archita Sahu.
Designed as India’s first state-owned safety application, it integrates emergency-response tools directly into the Odisha Yatri platform with a clear focus on speed and simplicity. Unlike conventional safety features that require users to unlock their phones and navigate multiple menus, the Odisha Yatri Safety App prioritises rapid access. Its standout “Shake & Alert” function allows passengers to trigger an emergency alert simply by shaking their phone, enabling help to be sought even under stress or when navigating the app is difficult. A one-click SOS button connects users instantly to the national emergency number 112 while notifying pre-designated contacts. Live location sharing lets trusted people track a journey in real time.
The safety tools are available to both passengers and drivers.
Additional features include quick access to police, ambulance and fire services, audio recording and sharing during emergencies, trusted-contact integration, an option to mark a ride as safe once the journey ends, and a consolidated list of emergency helpline numbers.
Chief Minister Majhi said safe, accessible and reliable mobility is essential for building citizen-friendly and prosperous cities. He stressed that technology should reinforce public confidence so that every citizen, particularly women, can travel independently and without fear.
Minister Mahapatra described the initiative as a reflection of the state government’s commitment to a modern urban transport system centred on safety, dignity and convenience. Brand ambassador Archita Sahu urged citizens, especially women and young people, to download the app and become familiar with its safety features, noting that the tools place immediate assistance directly in passengers’ hands.
Odisha Yatri already functions as an integrated mobility platform offering ride booking, Ama Bus services, FASTicket spot booking and boating facilities. The new safety module strengthens its goal of delivering convenient, affordable and secure travel across the state. Citizens can download or update the Odisha Yatri App to access the features, an official release added.
