Bhubaneswar: Odisha has emerged as the top-performing state in the country in completion of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U 2.0), with the government highlighting its commitment towards the vision of ‘housing for all.’
A statement from the Housing and Urban Development Department on Friday said Odisha has consistently maintained the number one position in India in house completion performance from March 2025 to March 2026 under the flagship urban housing scheme.
According to officials, altogether 24,625 houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 in Odisha since the scheme’s launch in September 2024. Of these, 23,464 proposed sites have already been geo-tagged.
Official figures show that foundation work has begun for 3,134 houses, while 2,008 houses had been completed as of May 5, 2026. The remaining houses are currently at different stages of construction.
The state government attributed the progress to coordinated efforts by the Housing and Urban Development Department, Urban Local Bodies, and field-level implementing agencies.
State Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra has directed officials to further accelerate construction activities and ensure that pending targets under PMAY-U 2.0 are completed ahead of schedule.
The Minister stressed the need for timely execution, quality construction, and speedy delivery of housing benefits to eligible urban poor families across the state.
Odisha’s performance under PMAY-U 2.0 reflects its focus on inclusive urban development and improving access to dignified housing for economically weaker sections, officials said.
