Brahmapur: A young man, identified as Kiran Patra, was found lying in a pool of blood early Sunday morning near the gate of Maa Kaali temple at Hansatuli village under Beguniapada block in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to sources, Patra, who had recently returned home from abroad, allegedly slashed his tongue with a sharp knife late last night near the local temple. The priest and some villagers found him in a critical condition this morning and rushed him to Khallikote Community Health Centre by 108 ambulance. Given the severity of his injuries, he was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur.
Sources further stated that Patrao was allegedly under severe psychological strain due to frequent domestic altercations following his return. A note was recovered from the spot in which he purportedly detailed his marital issues and expressed deep concern for his children.
Police have seized the letter and initiated a probe to ascertain whether it was a suicide attempt, driven by personal distress, or superstition. No evidence of involvement by any other individual has emerged so far.
