Odisha Man Sets Grocery Shop On Fire As Shopkeeper Asks For Pending Bill Of Rs 130, Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly setting a grocery shop on fire in Mahula Bazaar under Chandaka police limits of Odisha Capital when the shopkeeper asked him to pay Rs 130 for items taken on credit from him.

The youth has been identified as Sadasiba Swain, son of Krushna Chandra Swain of Madhupur village under Chandaka police limits in Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, Swain had purchased grocery items worth Rs 130 from the store owner Ranjit Sahu on credit a few days back. When Sahu asked Swain for the payment, he threatened him. Late on Tuesday, an enraged Swain set the shop on fire while Sahu was still inside the shop.

While Sahu managed to escape, the grocery items worth about Rs 1 lakh were reduced to ashes.

The incident was captured on CCTV. Locals caught the youth and handed him to police.

Based on an FIR lodged by the grocery shop owner, police on Wednesday registered a case under Sections Sections 436, 307 and 506 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested Swain.
