Bhubaneswar: Mathematician Prof Harekrishna Panda breathed his last in Bhubaneswar just weeks before his 79th birthday.
He died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here on April 23.
Panda was born on May 12, 1946, at Pandasuni, Bahanaga area, Balasore. He was the eldest of four brothers and four sisters. He studied at Balasore Zilla School, the erstwhile FM College, Utkal University, before completing his PhD in Topology from NIT, Rourkela, in 1973. He taught at NIT-R, Revenshaw College, BJB College, and retired in 2005 as HOD of MCA department of Khallikote College.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Anjana Panda, a doctor based in Bhubaneswar/Cuttack, and Pritinanda Panda, staying in the US.
His last rites were conducted in Bhubaneswar.
