Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is likely to reschedule summer vacation for schools in the state in view of the prevailing severe heatwave conditions.
Speaking to the media, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Tuesday said that a proposal has been submitted to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, recommending closure of schools till May 6 as an initial measure. “The Chief Minister is expected to take a decision within a day or two,” he said.
Pujari further stated that Anganwadi centres will also be closed if the heatwave condition worsens. “Dry food will be delivered to children at their doorsteps as part of the contingency plan,” he said.
The Revenue and Disaster Management Department has also given district collectors the authority to decide on school closures based on local weather conditions. They have also issued SOP, he added.
Notably, morning classes from 6.30 am to 10.30 am are being conducted in schools across the state since April 2 with provisions for drinking water and ORS to help students cope with the extreme heat.
