Bhubaneswar: Health Minister Naba Kishore Das on Tuesday warned the migrant workers of strict action for any violation of the quarantine rules.
The Odisha government has made it mandatory for migrants returning to the state to undergo 14 days of quarantine to allow for their samples to be collected for tests, the minister said.
“We have been receiving reports about violations of the quarantine rules by the migrants and such behaviour will not be tolerated,” he said.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy and DGP Abhay had earlier said that such violations will be dealt with sternly and migrants can also be arrested for the offence.
Das further said that around 3000 COVID-19 tests are being conducted at eight health institutions every day. “The Odisha government is planning to increase the testing capacity to 5000 a day and has requested the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to allow such tests at private diagnostic centres for the purpose,” he added.
