Rourkela: In a surprise move, Odisha MLA Durga Charan Tanti made a surprise visit to different police stations and hospitals located in several areas of Rourkela city to see how sincerely the personnel were working during night.
Tanti, legislator from Raghunathpalli, conducted the unannounced inspection late on Tuesday to assess the quality of services being provided to the public during night.
The inspection was aimed at ascertaining whether police personnel on night duty were sincerely performing their responsibilities and whether they were in proper state to provide timely assistance to common citizens in odd hours.
Speaking to reporters, the MLA said that he visited the police stations and hospitals in sectors 3, 7, 15, and 19 and found negligence on the part of the staff on duty.
In some places, gates were locked and on-duty staff were found asleep, raising serious concerns about accountability and public safety during night hours.
Voicing dissatisfaction over the situation, the legislator stated that he would take up the matter with the senior officials to ensure stricter monitoring and improved night-time services in both police and health sectors.
