Bhubaneswar: BJD MLA and former Odisha Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera and his family have been accused unleashing domestic violence and dowry torture on his daughter-in-law.

The Kendrapada MLA’s daughter-in-law Ronali Behera (31) has lodged a complaint against him and his family members at Banki police station, sources said.

Ronali, who had married Behera’s son Satyaprakash on March 3, 2021, has also accused her husband of having an illicit affair with another married woman.

In her complaint, she has alleged that she was subjected to mental and physical abuse by her husband as well as parents in-law, sister in-law and others. She claimed that she and was being constantly harassed to meet their financial demands.

Ronali further alleged that her in-laws tortured her for dowry and forced her to bring Rs 40 lakh from her parents.

Ronali claimed that her father had complied to all the demands but barely 10 days after coming to her in-laws place, Satyaprakash’s parents asked her to hand over all her jewellery. She claimed that her in-laws also asked her to get all her old jewelry from her home and demanded more money.

When she expressed her father’s inability to pay due to financial crunch, she was abused and humiliated, Ronali alleged.

Refuting the allegations made by his daughter-in-law as baseless and false, Shashi Bhusan Behera reportedly said that some differences must have cropped between his son and Ronali.

Stating that Ronali went to her paternal home with her father after staying in our home for one month and 11 days, he said the allegations of dowry demand are baseless.
