Odisha Mourns Its Brave Son Debashish Biswal Killed In J&K Terrorist Attack On Army Truck

Bhubaneswar: Condolences poured in for lance naik Debashish Biswal, who was among the five soldiers killed in a terrorist attack on a truck in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch on Thursday. He was a native of Alagum villahe in Satyabadi area in Odisha’s Puri district.

“The news of the martyrdom of Odisha’s hero Jawan Debasis Biswal in the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir is very sad. His sacrifices for the safety of the country will always be remembered. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to the family members at such a sad time,” tweeted Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Union Education Dharmendra Pradhan also mourned the death of the jawan. “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the martyrdom of 5 Jawans including Debasis Biswal of Sakhigopal area of Puri district of Odisha in terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. The sacrifice of these brave Javanese will not go in vain,” he wrote.

“Condolences to the bereaved family along with wishing the immortal soul peace. May Lord Sri Jagannath grant infinite patience and courage to the family during this difficult time. Om Shanti,” he added.

The victims were attached with the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles unit and were deployed for counterterrorist operations in the area.

Debashish, who is survived by his wife and a 7-month-old baby girl, was to celebrate his first marriage anniversary on April 22 on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. He had joined the Army in 2013.

His village is teary-eyed but proud about its brave son. “Although proud of him, we were shattered after hearing the news of his death,” said his grandfather Panchanan Biswal.

He was the pride of our village, added his brother Dilip Biswal.
