Bhubaneswar, The Odisha government has directed officials to complete fire safety inspection of government healthcare facilities in 15 days in view of recent fire incidents in hospitals.
Health and Family Welfare Secretary Aswathy S instructed fire officers, electrical inspectors, engineers, and medical officers to prioritise high-risk areas like operation theatres, ICUs, newborn care units, and heavy equipment such as CT and MRI machines. She emphasised on safe generator connections to prevent short circuits and mandated incorporating fire safety measures from the hospital planning stage to avoid future retrofitting.
Further, joint committees of fire officers, electrical inspectors, the engineers of the roads and building department, and chief medical and public health officers have been tasked with conducting field inspections, identifying safety gaps, and submitting detailed corrective plans within 15 days.
Districts must ensure compliance with electrical and fire safety certification standards, an official release said.
