New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: BJP MP from Odisha and former Union Minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi lashed out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over Murshidabad violence and accused her of being ‘anti-Hindu.’
Sarangi, who represents Balasore Lok Sabha constituency in Odisha, claimed that Mamata lacked the authority to discuss national unity as her actions caused societal divisions in West Bengal.
“West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is anti-Hindu. She has no right to speak about the unity of the nation. She divided the society in West Bengal. What is happening in Murshidabad? Did Mamata Banerjee take care of that? She is responsible for all the communal violence in West Bengal.” Sarangi told ANI.
Attacking Mamata in same vein, Union minister Giriraj Singh condemned her visit to the troubled Murshidabad area, suggesting that she responded only after Hindu communities expressed their discontent.
Noting that visited Murshidabad after a 27-day delay, he expressed concerns about Hindu safety under her leadership and suggested that Bengal’s residents have recognised this issue.
Earlier, another senior BJP leader and Odisha’s Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari had lambasted Mamata Banerjee, calling her anti-Hindu and against Lord Jagannath devotees.
“She is an anti-Hindu CM. She is perennially angry. Mamata is sailing in two boats. She does not have the courage to call a spade a spade. Democracy is murdered almost every day in Bengal. There have been attacks on Lord Jagannath’s devotees in Bengal. Illegal Bangladeshi migrants are being settled there and provided with Voter ID and ration cards in vote bank politics,” he told reporters on Monday.
Pujari also accused Mamata of attempting to create an alternative for Shreekhetra by using the term “Jagannath Dham” for the Digha temple, a name traditionally and scripturally associated with the 12th-century Puri shrine, one of Hinduism’s four holiest pilgrimage sites.
