Bhubaneswar: A transgender person accused of snatching a gold chain in Bhubaneswar has been arrested by the Commissionerate Police from Jharkhand.
The accused, identified as Subhashree Pani, was apprehended by a team from the Capital Police Station after around 10 months of investigation, Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena told reporters on Monday.
Subhashree had allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman in the Niladri Vihar area of Bhubaneswar in July last year. A case was registered with the police and an investigation was launched immediately.
After sustained tracking, the police finally found Subhashree’s whereabouts. The investigating team arrested her from Jharkhand on Sunday and brought her to Bhubaneswar on transit remand.
As the accused had mortgaged the stolen gold chain at a bank in exchange for money, it could not be recovered, the DCP said.
He warned that strict action would be taken against banks that accept gold ornaments without proper documentation.
