Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance apprehended an Assistant Sub-inspector of Police (ASI) at Khalikote in Ganjam district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
ASI Sujit Panigrahi, posted at Khallikote Police Station, was the Investigating Officer in a case registered against the complainant and had demanded Rs 15,000 to help him in the case. Unable to meet the demand, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities.
Following this, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught the ASI red-handed while taking the bribe money inside the police station campus. The entire tainted amount of Rs 15,000 has been recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Panigrahi from a Disproportionate Assets angle.
In this connection, a case was registered and further investigation is in progress.
