Baripada: A Sub-Inspector of Police posted at Baripada in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has been taken into custody following a complaint by a woman accusing him of sexual exploitation on the promise of marriage.
The accused, identified as Prabhat Nayak, is now under detention at the Baripada Town Police Station as part of investigation into the complaint lodged by a woman from Puri.
In her complaint, the woman has alleged that the SI had established a physical relationship with her after promising to marry her. However, Nayak later allegedly avoided her and did not fulfil his promise of marriage.
The woman further alleged that when she insisted on marriage, Nayak subjected her to mental and physical harassment, took money from her, and even threatened her with his service pistol.
According to information, the woman approached the Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police after the alleged betrayal.
Based on the woman’s complaint, police have registered a case against seven individuals, including SI Prabhat Nayak and some of his relatives, in connection with the allegations.
Investigation into the allegations made by the woman is in progress and appropriate steps will be taken based on the outcome of the probe, police said.
