Cuttack: Students of Ravenshaw University have launched a strong protest against shifting of some departments to its second campus at Naraj in Odisha’s Cuttack city over lack of basic facilities there.
The state government and Ravenshaw University Syndicate had earlier given their nod for shifting self-financing courses like Information Technology Management (ITM), Information Science and Telecommunication (IST) and Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) and Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) classes to Mahanadi campus at Brajabiharipur and resuming classes from July 15.
Opposing the decision, the students of the departments have submitted a memorandum to Vice Chancellor Sanjay Kumar Nayak, citing lack of necessary infrastructure, including hostels, canteen, playground, dispensary, bank and proper transportation facilities, at the second campus.
“Although the VC has assured to take all corrective measure with 15 days, we are not optimistic of them being executed. We should be shifted to the new campus after the project is fully completed,” said Monalisa Panda, a second year student of ITM department.
However, PG Council Chairperson, Ravenshaw University, Asima Sahoo said that the new campus is ready with smart classrooms, library and a 200-bed hostel for girls. “We are ready with the minimum required facilities to hold classes. Arrangements are being done to provide transportation to the student from the present campus to the new campus. We have requested the Odisha government to extend Mo Bus services to the second campus from Biju Patnaik Park for the convenience of students,” she added.
Built on 126 acres, the new campus at Sector 13 of CDA at Brajabiharipur is 16 km from the main campus of the University.
