Bhubaneswar: Amid soaring temperatures across Odisha, the government has reported 49 cases of heat-related illnesses so far this summer in the state. Several patients required hospitalisation.
As per the data collected till April 20, Sambalpur district recorded the highest number of such cases. On Sunday alone, 40 cases were reported in the district, Public Health Director Dr Nilakantha Mishra said on Monday.
Deogarh reported six cases, while Khurda, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar districts reported one case each.
Stating that one person was admitted due to heat-related illness on April 19, Dr Mishra said no suspected heat stroke death or hospitalisations due to heat stroke has been reported so far from any part of the state.
He advised people to take necessary precautions amidst the rising temperatures and to avoid stepping out unless very necessary.
Notably, heatwave returned to the state after a brief spell of thunderstorms. While Jharsuguda recorded 45.4 degree Celsius on Monday, mercury touched or soared above 40 degree Celsius in at least 14 places in the state.
