Bhubaneswar: Odisha is gearing up for another spell of heavy rain coupled with thunderstorm activity as a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a low pressure area, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over West-central – Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh – South Odisha coasts at 5.8 km above mean sea level.
The IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings for several districts between August 27 and the morning of September 2. The intensity of rain is likely to increase from August 29.
In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a yellow warning of heavy rain in some places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, and Mayurbhanj.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph) may occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada during the period.
On August 27-28, a yellow warning was issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj, while thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind may occur in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada districts during the period.
On August 28-29, yellow warning of heavy rain was issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind may occur in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada districts during the period.
On August 29-30, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for the districts of Anugola, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Similarly, yellow warning of heavy rain was issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghapur, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Debagada, and Dhenkanal.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph) may occur in Anugola, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
On August 30-31, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to lash Sundaragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj districts, where an orange warning has been issued.
A yellow warning of heavy rainfall was sounded for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Nayagada districts.
On August 31-Sept 1, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain was sounded for the districts of Sundaragada, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, while yellow alert was issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada districts.
On Sept 1-2, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain was issued for Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, and Kendujhar districts, while yellow alert was sounded for Jajpur, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj.
