Bhubaneswar: The 84th annual session of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) concluded here on Monday.
The four-day event, successfully hosted by Bhubaneswar at Janata Maidan, saw participation of more than 2,500 delegates from India and abroad, including engineers, government officials and research scholars from reputed institutions.
Nineteen technical meetings were organised, which focused on various key aspects of road development and management.
Over the four days, from November 7 to 10, experts deliberated on strengthening and modernising India’s road infrastructure. The event was a platform for knowledge exchange on road infrastructure, innovations, and emerging technologies, with participation from distinguished experts, scientists, road engineers, and dignitaries from across the country.
The final day featured the 236th Council Meeting, where IRC president Manoranjan Parida expressed gratitude to all officers, engineers of the Works Department, and the Government of Odisha for their excellent coordination in organizing the technical sessions and cultural programmes.
One of the highlights of the 84th business session was the ‘Open-to-Sky Stall Area’, showcasing around 20 exhibits featuring road infrastructure models and technological innovations. In addition, over 350 technical exhibition stalls were set up, displaying modern mechanised techniques such as mechanized mastic applications, widely used in contemporary road construction.
A cultural evening was organised to entertain the delegates, with performances by renowned singers Rituraj Mohanty, Krishna Beura, Ananya Sritam Nanda and Barnali Hota, along with traditional dance performances representing vibrant cultural heritage of Odisha and India.
