Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to offer free coaching to 200 aspirants for the Civil Services Examinations conducted by the UPSC.
“The Higher Education Department will launch a scheme to provide free coaching for UPSC Civil Services Examinations, both Prelims and Mains, with accommodation facilities for 200 aspirants,” an official said adding that the enrollment will be done through an entrance examination.
Higher Education department Joint Secretary Dhirendra Nath Kar has directed the General Manager of OCAC to develop a new module for UPSC Civil Services coaching enrolment under the SAMS portal and furnish a detailed report by February 10. The pre-qualifying examination is scheduled to be held on February 26.
“The aspirants will have to apply for enrollment for the entrance examination and download their admit cards from the website of the department,” the official added.
At a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra in November last year, it was decided to open a centralised professional coaching centre with a state-of-the-art library and digital learning hub at Bhubaneswar for UPSC aspirants.
In 2019, the Higher Education department signed an MoU with a Delhi-based coaching agency Dhyeya Educational Services to provide qualitative coaching to at least 100 aspirants at subsidised annual fees of Rs 20,650. Candidates whose parents’ annual income was less than Rs 2 lakh were enrolled in the coaching programme.
Notably, Odisha lags behind with less than one per cent share whereas states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Bihar top with the success rate capturing more than five pc of the posts each.
