Keonjhar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday inaugurated the 39th Sub-Junior (Boys’) National Handball Championship in Keonjhar and affirmed the government’s resolve to promote sports and games in all villages of the state.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the state government has taken a host of measures for promoting sports activities right from the rural level and encouraging youngsters to actively participate in the initiative.
While CM Trophy sports tournaments are being organised to attract budding talents, the government is taking a slew of measures to boost sports infrastructure across the state. The state government will construct stadiums in all 314 blocks of the state to strengthen sports infrastructure at the grassroots, he said.
Noting that the state government has allocated more than Rs 4,000 crore for this purpose, Majhi said stadiums of various categories will be constructed from village and block to district level. In every block, a stadium will come up on around 8 to 10 acres of land.
This move is expected to significantly boost sports culture and nurture young talent from rural areas, the CM said.
These stadiums will play a key role in hosting various sports competitions, enabling talent scouting and selection from the grassroots, he said.
The state government is committed to the overall development of sports and athletes, ensuring that young talents have the necessary infrastructure to build their careers in sports, the CM added.
During his Keonjhar visit, the Chief Minister also attended a number of other events, including the annual function of Mandalpat nodal high school at Birakishorepur.
