Bhadrak: Despite several warnings and announcements regarding the lockdown in the view of coronavirus pandemic, a trader in Odisha’s Bhadrak kept his cement shop open for customers on Monday.
The trader, identified as a resident of Gabasahi, was arrested by the Bhadrak Town police for the violation and forwarded to court, sources said.
These lockdowns are being enforced to prevent the third stage of infection — community transmission.
Local police can book individuals for not complying with the law/regulatory orders to curb COVID-19 under Sections 188 (violation of order promulgated by Govt), 269 (negligently doing any act known to be likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignantly doing any act known to be likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life), 271 (knowingly disobeying any quarantine rule) of the IPC.
The Punishment
Section 188: Cognizable, Bailable.
Section 269: Imprisonment for 6 months or fine, or both. Cognizable, Bailable
Section 270: Imprisonment for 2 years, or fine, or both. Cognizable, Bailable
Section 271: Imprisonment for 6 months, or fine, or both Non-cognizable.
