Bhubaneswar: With the Odisha government deciding to keep bodies of all victims of the triple train accident in Balasore in one place to smoothen the process of handing over those to the families, the AIIMS in Bhubaneswar will receive 39 more bodies on Wednesday.

Speaking to media persons, Ashutosh Biswas, executive director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar, said the institute has all facilities to preserve the bodies.

“The AIIMS had received total 123 bodies and 71 of them were handed over to respective families after identification and due process. Now we have 52 bodies. Of them, 41 bodies have been kept in three containers as per the WHO recommended procedure. We are expecting 39 more bodies by tomorrow evening,” Biswas said.

Meanwhile, the DNA testing centre opened at the AIIMS for identification of the deceased passengers has started functioning. Several families have given DNA samples to avoid confusion in the identification of the bodies.

Biswas said the collected DNA samples would be sent to a laboratory in New Delhi for testing, After getting the reports of DNA tests, bodies will be handed over to their respective families, he added.
