Bhubaneswar: Additional tehsildar of Maneswar in Sambalpur district was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance on Saturday for allegedly accepting Rs 6,000 bribe from a man for conversion of his land category.
The accused was identified as Bhubanananda Sahu, an officer of the Odisha Revenue Service (ORS). He was caught by Vigilance while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 6,000/- from the complainant for conversion of his agricultural land to non-agricultural (homestead) purpose and issuance of ROR in his favour.
Sahu had demanded Rs 10,000 and following negotiation, he reduced the bribe amount to Rs 6,000. As Sahu refused to do the work unless the bribe was paid, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities, alleging his harassment by Sahu.
Following this, a team of Vigilance nabbed Sahu in his office while taking bribe amount of Rs 6,000 from the complainant. The entire bribe money has been recovered from accused Sahu and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations connected to Sahu from Disproportionate Assets angle.
A case has been registered against the additional tehsildar under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and investigation is in progress.
