Bhubaneswar: A woman constable in Odisha’s Malkangiri district is being hailed on social media for going beyond her duty to help a mother appearing for RI and Amin recruitment.

The Odisha police shared a post, describing it as an unique example of motherhood.

According to reports, the incident took place on Sunday at Bibiguda examination centre where Bhairavi Mandal was appearing for the exam. She, however, was unable to focus on her paper with her one-and-a-half-month-old baby crying uncontrollably outside the hall. She even considered abandoning the exam midday as her husband, who had accompanied her, failed to pacify the infant.

It was then that the constable, Rajani Majhi who was on duty at the exam centre, stepped in and offered to look after the infant so that the mother could write her exam without any hassle.

For nearly two hours, Rajani, also a mother of a nine-month-old boy, comforted the crying infant. She even breastfed Bhairavi’s baby to calm him down.

While Bhairavi tearfully thanked Rajani after the exam, the constable explained that her actions stemmed from empathy since she was able to understand Bhairavi’s situation being a mother herself. “I could feel her pain because I also have a nine-month-old child. I understood her mental condition and assured her that I would take care of the baby,” she said.
