Keonjhar: In a dramatic incident reminiscent of a famous scene from the Bollywood classic Sholay, a young man from Saharapada area in Odisha’s Keonjhar climbed a newly erected high-voltage electric tower near Judia Ghati on Thursday morning, threatening to take his own life unless his girlfriend agreed to speak with him.
According to eyewitnesses, the youth scaled the tower early this morning and began shouting from the top, declaring that he would jump if his girlfriend refused to talk to him – echoing the iconic moment when an inebriated Veeru (played by Dharmendra) climbs atop a water tank and threatens to jump unless the ‘mausi’ agrees to let her niece ‘Basanti’ (Hema Malini) marry him in the 1975 film.
After being alerted by locals, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot and arranged for a phone call between the youth, the woman, and her family members. Following the conversation, the young man was persuaded to descend safely. He was then taken to Keonjhar Town police station for questioning.
Police, which have registered a case and are investigating the matter further, stated that appropriate action will be taken.
