Brahmapur: In a major boost to Odisha’s emerging renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem, Saatvik Solar Industries Private Limited, a subsidiary of Saatvik Green Energy Limited, has entered into an initial agreement with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Ltd (IPICOL) to establish a 3.6 gigawatt (GW) solar cell manufacturing facility at Gopalpur in the state’s Ganjam district.
The project, which forms Phase II of the company’s broader industrial presence in the region, will come up on land sub-leased from the Tata Steel Special Economic Zone within the Gopalpur Industrial Park along National Highway 16, situated approximately 12 km from the Gopalpur port. It is expected to generate significant local employment, accelerate regional industrialisation, and enhance domestic supply chain resilience in the clean energy sector.
The new cell manufacturing line complements Saatvik Solar’s Phase I integrated facility at the same location, which features 2.4 GW of cell capacity and 4 GW of module capacity and is now nearing operational readiness. Phase I has cleared primary construction and installation phases, with tools being positioned and a dedicated 220 kV electrical substation ready for charging. Commercial manufacturing processes at Phase I are advancing through validation and testing ahead of a crucial Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM-II) government inspection scheduled for September, which will qualify the facility to participate in major national solar procurement tenders, a company release said.
Chief Executive Officer of Saatvik Green Energy Prashant Mathur emphasized that the expansion in Gopalpur represents a strategic milestone in building a scale-driven, integrated base to meet the surge in demand for domestically produced solar components. Commercial production from the newly planned 3.6 GW expansion phase is targeted to be operational by FY28, he added.
