Sambalpur: IIM Sambalpur launched its first-ever undergraduate programmes: BSc in Management and Public Policy and BSc in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence on Friday. These programmes are aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
According to the institute, these cross-functional, future-forward programmes are rooted in integrity and innovation, with an aim to build responsible leaders equipped with skills in data analysis, critical reasoning, and evidence-based decision-making.
The BSc in Management and Public Policy focuses on national priorities such as sustainability, ESG, and grassroots development, aiming to bridge the gap between policy and practice. The BSc in Data Science and AI, co-designed with industry leaders, fosters India’s digital capabilities with a focus on ethical AI and global competitiveness.
The launch event featured a high-profile roundtable on “Global Capability Centres (GCCs) as Engines of Innovation for Global Enterprises.”
Chief Guest Bramhanand Jha, vice president, National eGovernance Division (MeitY), highlighted the strategic shift of GCCs from cost centres to innovation hubs. “Institutions like IIM Sambalpur are developing the talent and mindset to drive a digital-first economy,” he noted.
Prof Mahadeo Jaiswal, director, IIM Sambalpur, said: “With the launch of our four-year, fully residential BS programmes, we take a pioneering step towards building future-ready leaders aligned with NEP 2020. These programmes allow multiple entry-exit options — certificate after one year, diploma after two, degree after three, and honours after four — providing flexibility and lifelong learning pathways.”
Lt Col Piyush Shukla, director (JEE), NTA, praised the initiative. “The education system is evolving to discover and nurture talent suited for innovation-driven sectors like GCCs. These programmes are timely and vital,” he said.
Rajesh Kumar, director (CUET), NTA, added: “With CUET democratizing access to education, it’s crucial that such future-oriented programmes reach talent across India.”
Admissions to the BSc in Data Science and AI will be via JEE Main, while the BSc in Management and Public Policy will admit students through CUET, both conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Applications will open in June 2025 and classes commence from September 2025.
Through its innovative UG programmes, IIM Sambalpur reinforces its commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial, globally competent, and socially conscious leaders for a dynamic future.
