Bhubaneswar: Sachin Behera, widely known as ‘Knee Striker of India’, has set a new India Book of Records for 103 One-Leg Full Contact Knee Strikes wearing 1 kg ankle weights in one minute (Male) and brought glory to Odisha and the country.
This record attempt was successfully conducted at Overall Sports Academy in Bhubaneswar on September 10. The record was officially confirmed on September 15 and the confirmation was received via email from India Book of Records.
It may be noted that Sachin Behera, born in Larka village under Boden Block of Nuapada district of Odisha, is an Indian athlete who created a Guinness World Record for the fastest knee strikes in one minute by hitting the target 137 times with both knees on 10th March 2019, and later created another World Record in 2022. He is the first individual from Nuapada district to hold a Guinness World Record. His parents, Laxmi Prasad Behera and Arati Behera, are feeling proud of their son.
He has completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) from Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital, Bhubaneswar and is currently pursuing Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) in Orthopaedics at Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital, Bhubaneswar.
“Being a sprinter, knee strikes were a part of my regular practice. I focused on my knee strike speed under the guidance of Soumya Ranjan Das,” said the 25-year-old.
He said Tirupati Panigrahi, Chairman of Hi-Tech Group of Institutions, has been a great support and inspiration.
Sachin has also won several prizes in sprinting events.
In this India Book of Records event for 103 Knee Strikes, Soumya Ranjan Das was present as Expert Witness, Krupasindhu Barik as Kick Pad Holder and Sandeep Patnaik as Time Keeper. There has been a wave of happiness in Odisha after this news.
