Sambalpur: In a bid to restore discipline on campus, Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Odisha’s Burla has taken action against around 100 students for misconduct, breach of discipline, and poor attendance.
Following complaints and reports of indiscipline, the University’s Disciplinary Committee for Students reviewed each case and made recommendations, which were approved by the Vice-Chancellor.
An official notification was then issued by the Registrar outlining disciplinary actions and penalties for the students based on the severity of their offences. Penalties ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 have been imposed, and some students will face a reduction in academic grades.
This apart, the students will also face other consequences. They will be barred from participating in university-organised sports tournaments and competitions. Moreover, they will not be considered for medals, academic awards, and recognitions for excellence., officials said.
Individual disciplinary measures were decided based on the nature of each student’s misconduct. While some cases pertain to disruptive activities, others involve chronic absenteeism and violations of university conduct regulations.
University officials stressed that the objective behind such stringent actions is not only punitive but also reformative. Maintaining discipline and upholding the academic and cultural values of the institution is non-negotiable.
