Offline JEE Main-2018 Begins, 46,789 Students From Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The sixth all India Offline Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main-2018 began across the country on Sunday.

Out of a total of 12,48,736 students appearing in the test at different centres in 112  cities, 46,789 students from Odisha are appearing at 82 centres in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Balasore, Berhampur and Rourkela cities.

The offline test will have two sittings.

The first sitting which began at 9.30 am will end at 12.30 pm. The second sitting will begin from 2 pm continue till 5 pm.

While the first sitting is being held for the Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Technology candidates in first sitting, the test for the Bachelor of Archaeology and Bachelor of Planning candidates will be held in the second sitting.

As per the instruction of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) the students reported at the centre an hour before the commencement of the examination.

To prevent malpractice, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place.

As per the instructions, students are allowed to carry plain cardboard or a clip board, geometry box set, pencils, erasers and colour pencils/ crayons to the examination hall.

However, they are not allowed to carry packed food items, any textual material, calculators, slide rules, log tables, electronic watches with facilities of calculator, printed or written material, bits of papers, mobile phone, pager or any other device,’ said the exam conducting body. Besides, they will not carry pens as it will be provided to them by the centre superintendents.

JEE Main score is being used along with marks of class 12/equivalent qualifying examination for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, institutions funded by participating state governments, and other institutions. The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE Main will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.
