Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has set an ambitious target of producing 50 million tonnes of minerals and achieving Rs 30,000 crore in sales revenue in fiscal 2025-26.
This was revealed during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan here on Wednesday. A plan to ramp up bauxite production from 3.6 to 6 million tonnes next year was also discussed, along with measures like lease extensions, fast-tracking environmental clearances and operationalization of new mines.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the need for OMC to focus on improving livelihoods in mining areas through e
mployment and convergence of development schemes. He stressed the importance of promoting forest resources and implementing various developmental activities to generate employment opportunities for local communities. The OMC would prepare a special plan for this purpose.
Majhi also reviewed progress of OMC’s proposed pellet plant, slated to begin operations by May 2026. The Centre’s MECON has been tasked with preparing a Techno-Economic Feasibility Report for this project. A dedicated project committee has also been formed to implement it.
He also urged OMC to enhance its operational efficiency by recruiting skilled professionals.
The meeting was attended by Steel & Mines Additional Chief Secretary Surendra Kumar and CM’s Principal Secretary Saswata Mishra.
