Orange Warning For Six Odisha Districts As Low Pressure Forms Over Bay Of Bengal

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in south coastal Odisha under the influence of a low pressure over Bay of Bengal.

The national weather agency said in a mid-day bulletin that a low pressure, that had formed over north Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on Friday, will concentrate into a depression over central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours and move west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh coast as a depression during the morning of October 12.

Under its influence, heavy rainfall will lash most parts of south coastal Odisha with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places. Heavy rain will continue till October 13.

IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings in the following districts:

October 11
Orange warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Puri.

October 12
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda and Nayagarh.

October 13
Orange warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri.

Yellow warning
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Bhadrak and  Balasore.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of central Bay of Bengal from October 10 and along and off the Odisha coast from October 11 to 13.

The Odisha government has directed district collectors to remain on high alert in view of heavy rainfall warning.
