Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to file a fresh detailed report on the status of COVID vaccination among the inmates of old age homes.

After perusal of an affidavit filed by the government on COVID vaccination among the elderly and differently-abled citizens in the state by August 31, the court expressed its dissatisfaction. The report lacked the details of the figures as asked earlier, the court pointed out.

Directing the government to file a fresh affidavit mentioning the number of old age homes and their inmates and how many of them have been vaccinated, the court set the next hearing on October 7.

On July 28, responding to a PIL seeking vaccination facility at the doorstep of elderly and differently-abled people, the court had sought a detailed report from the government on the steps taken for doorstep vaccination of elderly and persons with disabilities (PwDs) by September 7.

It had also directed to provide the actual figures of the number of persons in the two categories who have been administered both doses of COVID vaccine along with the percentage of the respective populations covered by the vaccination drive.

The court on Tuesday also told the government to file an affidavit on the steps taken to speed up the vaccination by October 4.

Pointing out discrepancies in the COVID death figures in the affidavit filed by the government, the court directed to submit a fresh affidavit.
