New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on Thursday said that India has conducted more than 1.17 lakh COVID-19 tests under its ‘test, track, treat’ strategy to curb the coronavirus from spreading.
“Over 11,70,000 tests have been done in the last 24 hours. High levels of testing sustained over a period of time in widespread areas to diagnose cases early and facilitate seamless isolation and hospitalization. It eventually leads to a low mortality rate,” said the Health Ministry.
From the past few days, Indian states and union territories have adopted an aggressive approach of testing the patients to control the coronavirus outbreak.
The health ministry said, “Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are the states that account for nearly 34% of the total testing.”
In the biggest single-day spike, India on Thursday recorded 83, 883 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, which pushed the nation’s tally to 3,853,406, according to the Union Health Ministry. The number of active cases is 8,15,538 and 29,70,492 patients have recovered so far.
